Therapy for Perfectionism

Common Traits of Perfectionists:

  • You are highly self-critical.

  • You would rather do things yourself than have someone else do them “wrong.”

  • You dwell on your mistakes and flaws.

  • You try to avoid mistakes- seeing them as “bad.”

  • You have difficulty being spontaneous.

  • You have insomnia or trouble sleeping.

  • You procrastinate or don’t start things, because you don’t think you can do them perfectly.

  • You try to avoid conflicts.

Perfectionism is a double-edged sword.

Overwhelmed by stress at work or school? Believe anything less than acing that presentation or exam will expose you as an imposter and a failure? To prove you are not inadequate, you dedicate a tremendous amount of time and energy towards never making mistakes; seemingly never able to relax or slow down. In fact, taking your foot off the gas never feels like an option. High levels of drive and ambition have fueled numerous successes in your life. However, you seldom enjoy your achievements and you are rarely satisfied because you quickly move to the next assignment in a never-ending pursuit to prove your worth. Eventually perfectionism feels more like a burden than an asset. I’m here to help you lighten the load and discover that you are, and always have been, enough.

I can be your guide in this journey to balance and self-acceptance

I provide a safe, non-judgmental space for us to explore and understand the root causes of your perfectionism and for you to learn tools for moderating your perfectionist tendencies. You will gain skills to develop more flexible thinking about performance and achievement as well as ways to be more self-compassionate and accepting of yourself as you are. In turn, you will be able to accept that you don’t have to be perfect to be successful; that you don’t have to be perfect to be enough.

Overcoming perfectionism is a challenging journey, but one that can increase fulfillment in various areas of your life- family, work satisfaction, social relationships, and mental health.
